MomentX is built on one principle: your data belongs to you. We do not sell your data, show you ads, or share your information with third parties for commercial purposes. Everything we collect is used solely to make the app work for you.1. Who We Are
MomentX is an iOS citizen journalism application developed by Mahmoud El-Fayoumi ("we", "us", "our"). The app enables users to capture, annotate, and share extraordinary events including UFO sightings, natural phenomena, emergencies, rare wildlife, and breaking news events.By using MomentX, you agree to this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please discontinue use of the app.2. Information We Collect
2.1 Camera & Microphone
Device Only
MomentX requires access to your device's camera and microphone to record video moments. Video and audio recordings are stored locally on your device. We do not access, transmit, or process your recordings on any server. All recordings stay on your iPhone unless you explicitly choose to share or export them.Camera access: required for video capture in all quality tiers (720p free, 1080p/4K Pro)
Microphone access: required for audio recording during video capture
Buffer Mode (Pro): temporarily holds up to 30 seconds of video in device RAM only — never written to any server
2.2 Location Data
Device Only
MomentX uses your location for the following purposes:Moment tagging: attaches your GPS coordinates to captured moments so they can be mapped. Stored locally on your device only.
GeoAlert™: monitors your location to detect when you are near extraordinary events. Processed entirely on your device — not transmitted to our servers.
First Witness reports: your approximate city/region is shown publicly on reports you voluntarily submit (see Section 10b).
Reverse geocoding: converts coordinates to a location name using Apple's on-device MapKit — no data sent to third parties.
You can revoke location access at any time in iOS Settings.2.3 User Profile Information

All profile information is stored locally on your device. We do not collect, transmit, or store your profile on any external server. Your profile is used to personalize your in-app experience and, if you choose, to identify you as a First Witness on public reports.2.4 Speech Recognition (Voice-to-Caption — Pro)
On-Device Only
Uses Apple's on-device Speech Recognition framework (SFSpeechRecognizer). All processing happens on your device. No audio is sent to Apple's servers or any third-party service. You can revoke this permission anytime in iOS Settings → Privacy → Speech Recognition.2.5 Video Metadata & Blockchain Verification (Pro)
Device Only
Generates a SHA-256 cryptographic hash of your video file combined with location and timestamp. The hash is generated entirely on-device. No video or biometric data is uploaded to generate this hash.2.6 Purchase Information
Apple Managed
MomentX Pro is a one-time in-app purchase ($3.99 USD) processed entirely by Apple. We do not collect, store, or have access to your payment card details, Apple ID, or any financial information. Apple's Privacy Policy governs all payment data: apple.com/legal/privacy2.7 AR Sky Overlay (Pro)
On-Device Only
Uses ARKit and CoreMotion for constellation overlays. All calculations are performed on-device using pre-computed star catalog data embedded in the app. No internet connection required. No sensor data transmitted externally.2.8 Newsroom Submission (Pro)
User Initiated
When you choose to submit a captured moment to the Newsroom, you are explicitly sharing that content. Nothing is submitted automatically. You control this action entirely.2.9 First Witness Reports
Publicly Visible
When you submit a First Witness report, the following information becomes visible to all MomentX users worldwide:Your display name and username
Your country and country flag
Your approximate location (city/region — not exact GPS)
Your written title and description of the event
Any thumbnail image you attach
Timestamp of submission
Comments you post on witness reports are publicly visible and include your display name, username, country flag, and comment text. Reactions are aggregated anonymously — other users see only the total count.2.10 Crash Reports & Analytics
Opt-In via iOS
MomentX contains no third-party analytics SDK. If you have enabled "Share iPhone Analytics" in iOS Settings, Apple may share anonymized crash reports with us through App Store Connect. This data contains no personally identifiable information.3. Information We Do NOT Collect

4. How We Use Your Information
Core functionality: Camera and microphone access enables video recording
Location tagging: GPS coordinates attach to moments you capture
GeoAlert™: Your location is compared against event data to alert you of nearby events
Personalization: News interests and country selection customize your Newsroom feed — all processed locally
First Witness: Your profile name and location are shown publicly only when you voluntarily submit a report
Feature delivery: Voice-to-Caption, AR Sky, and Buffer Mode use device sensors to provide their features
5. Data Storage & Security
All user data in MomentX is stored locally on your device using iOS UserDefaults and the local filesystem. Your data is protected by iOS's built-in encryption. When you delete the app, all locally stored data is permanently removed. We have no server-side copy because we never stored one.6. Permissions We Request
Camera
Required. Used to record video moments.Microphone
Required for audio. Used to record audio with video. You can disable using the in-app mic toggle without revoking system permission.Location (When In Use)
Recommended. Used to geotag captured moments and for First Witness location. Can be denied — moments will not have location stamps.Location (Always)

Optional — Pro feature. Required for Voice-to-Caption. All transcription is on-device.7. First Witness — Public Content Policy
The First Witness feature is a voluntary public reporting system. By submitting a First Witness report you agree to:Your name being permanently credited as the original reporter of that event
Your report being visible to all MomentX users globally
Your approximate location (city level) being displayed publicly
You should NOT submit reports that:Contain personally identifiable information about other individuals without their consent
Are false, fabricated, or misleading
Depict minors in any inappropriate context
Violate any applicable law or regulation
Note: First Witness credits are permanent. Your name will always appear as the original reporter of events you submit. False reports will be removed and may result in account restrictions.8. Children's Privacy
MomentX is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided personal information through MomentX, please contact us and we will take steps to remove such information.9. International Users
Since all data is stored locally on your device, there is no international data transfer to our servers. Your data stays on your device, in your country, protected by iOS encryption.GDPR (European Union)
MomentX complies with GDPR. Since we do not collect personal data on our servers, you are effectively the data controller. You have the right to delete all data by uninstalling the app. For First Witness reports you have submitted publicly, contact us to request removal.CCPA (California)
MomentX does not sell personal information. We do not share personal information with third parties for cross-context behavioral advertising.10. Third-Party Services
MomentX uses only Apple's native frameworks — no third-party SDKs are embedded. Frameworks used include AVFoundation, ARKit, CoreLocation, MapKit, Speech, CoreMotion, CryptoKit, StoreKit, and WidgetKit. Each is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.11. Data Retention & Deletion
Since all data is stored locally on your device, you control retention entirely:Delete a moment: Delete it from within the app
Delete your profile: Go to Profile → Edit → clear your information
Delete all data: Uninstall MomentX — iOS permanently removes all app data

12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Effective Date" at the top and release an updated app version. Continued use of MomentX after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.13. Your Rights
Access all data stored by MomentX (it's on your device — you already have full access)
Delete all your data (uninstall the app)
Withdraw any permission at any time (iOS Settings)
